Plot:

Tum Mile is a tale of love set against the backdrop of 26th July, 2005 floods, a catastrophe that is still etched in people’s memory and has a tremendous recall-value. The film is about two lovers Akshay, an idealist struggling art student, born in a middle class Indian family and Sanjana, a bright and vivacious young woman and though daughter of a wealthy industrialist, is a good samaritan. How the two star crossed ex lovers meet in the midst of chaos and tragedy after a long hiatus of 8 years, and what happens next is the film all about. The deluge ultimately revives the love between the two protagonists.

Overall synopsis:

Akshay, an idealist struggling art student, born in a middle class Indian family, who has had to give up on art for the sake of money and stability meets his long lost love Sanjana after 8 years, while coming back to Mumbai on a plane. Though both have moved on and have settled careers, they cant forget each other, and start meeting again. The seemingly innocuous encounters end up as a rollercoaster ride through some of the darkest hours of Mumbai, when the city faces its worst disaster, floods due to cloud bursts on 26th July, 2005. As they try to save themselves from the floods, what they leave behind for a new beginning on that fateful night is the film all about.

Performances:

Emraan Hashmi though dubbed the ‘Serial Kisser’ is consistently improving as an actor (though he does kiss his lady love twice in the film). Though grossly underrated, the talented actor has given another brilliant subdued performance after Awarapan’, and aptly depicted emotional outbursts of a struggler. Soha Ali Khan too has evolved into a fine actress after giving good performances in films like ‘Ahista Ahista’ and has an air of sophistication in her. Both Emraan Hashmi and Soha Ali Khan are extremely natural, especially in their tiffs that many young couples will identify with. Sachin Khedekar, and VJ tuned actress Mantra are okay in their miniscal roles.

Technical Values:

The film is being dubbed as a film made in a never seen before scale. Very few natural disasters have been depicted in the history of Indian Cinema with seriously. The film has been well shot with brilliant visuals & special effects by cinematographer Prakash Kutty, who has managed to recreate the dangerous catastrophic situation on 26th July, 2005 as well as depicted the beauty of South Africa, but computer graphics could've been even better. Director Kunal Deshmukh of ‘Jannat’ fame has done a fantastic job trying to show the ups and downs of a live-in relationship besides depictingthe nature's fury brilliantly. Although the story goes back and forth several times, the viewers remain glued to their seats with natural calamity unfolding in the background. Music by Pritam is as always melodious with the title track standing out.

Conclusion:

Tum Mile is a film set in the backdrops of the 26th July, 2005 Mumbai deluge could have given better coverage the deluge itself rather than the revival of the love between two estranged lovers. Direction by Kunal Deshmukh of ‘Jannat’ fame is top notch and has been ably supported by fantastic cinematography by Prakash Kutty. Overall the film facing competition from another apocalyptical film ‘2012’ is expected to hold on.
