Abhishek Bachchan is all set to copy his father Amitabh Bachchan role in ‘Zanjeer’ in his upcoming film ‘Dum Maaro Dum’. According to reports Abhishek Bachchan will play the role of intense, no-nonsense policeman who is up against the drug mafia. This role is akin to what Amitabh Bachchan did in ‘Zanjeer’ (1973) that made him a household name. ‘Dum Maaro Dum’ is being directed by Rohan Sippy, its their 3rd film together after ‘Kuch Naa Kaho’ and ‘Bluffmaster’. Rohan Sippy said "I am happy to team up yet again with Abhishek, who is a marvelous actor, and together we promise to provide edge of the seat excitement to audiences".

‘Dum Maaro Dum’
is reportedly an action-thriller, based on the drug problem affecting Goa, the largest tourist destination of India. The film also stars Bipasha Basu, Aditya Panscholi, Pratiek Babbar and Telugu star Rana Daggubati, who is making his Bollywood debut. Ramesh Sippy, is co-producing the movie with Fox Star Studios, a joint venture between Twentieth Century Fox and Star. Vijay Singh, CEO-Fox Star Studios India said "We are committed to working with the best talent in the business and are delighted to be working with the winning pair of Rohan and Abhishek on 'Dum Maaro Dum'. It's an amazing script that we are all very excited about. It's going to be a film to watch out for in 2010." Ramesh Sippy saidWe are extremely excited to partner on our next project with people who are like minded and have a vision to take the film places". In order to make Abhishek Bachchan’s character in ‘Dum Maaro Dum’ do something similar to him, what the ‘Zanjeer’ character did to his Amitabh Bachchan, the filmmakers are trying to keep his character as close to Big B's character in ‘Zanjeer’.
